Getting to Know our Local Monk

Everything has been excellent this week with the elephants. We observed a lot of nursing and today Mana and Song Kran were squeaking and rumbling as we entered the forest. Tong Dee seemed to like her alone time and spent most her time foraging apart from the other elephants. Apart from the elephants, a highlight of this week was our peaceful visitor who joined us on our Wednesday morning walk, the monk from the village temple.
It was a great chance to show a community figure what GVI's forest reintroduction is about and what kind of work we are doing. We discussed the behaviour studies and elephant observations. We hiked with the elephants and enjoyed being out in the forest together. The monk invited us to join him for meditation at the temple, and volunteers had the opportunity to learn about meditation from him. It was a great opportunity to get to know the community and for the community to get to know GVI volunteers and staff.
