St. Patricks Day Showers Bring Elephant Poo Flowers

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya. St. Patricks Day began in true Irish style with green fruit and 49 hours of straight rain! The rain started on Tuesday morning and the downpour has continued ever since. This crazy weather has encouraged volunteers to show their creative genius. We have played get-to-know you games, a 3 hour game of Uno, an afternoon long game of Monopoly, watched Sex and the City and Back to the Future, and everyone is still friends! A very productive last few days in Huay Pakoot.
Today’s St. Patrick’s Day projects include designing elephant crossing signs, and story boarding for an epic elephant adventure film. We plan on braving the rain this afternoon for a visit to the elephants, who have been in the forest revelling in the muddy rain since Monday. This evening’s St. Patrick’s Day activities include telling stories about the old country around the fire at our homestays, eating stew (actually just rice), drinking Guinness (actually just hot tea), and wearing traditional Irish clothing (actually Karen woven goods). All around a great day and week for the volunteers and elephants!
