Christmas Day Run for Elephant Rescue

Christmas day all our combined exercise efforts finally paid off with our big day – The Run for Elephant Rescue in the Chiang Mai City Marathon. With 2 entries in the full marathon, 5 entries in the half marathon, and 12 in the 10 km run, our GVI crew gathered for the run in Chiang Mai from as far away as Krabi, donned our snazzy race day T-shirts, and got ourselves ready to run for our eles. The excitement started at a very sleepy 4am on Christmas morning when the marathon got underway, closely followed by the other races at 5 and 6am. The events took us through all the interesting and not so interesting areas of Chiang Mai. Legs aching, we counted down every kilometre, with dodging of scooters and tuk-tuk taxis adding to the challenge. Spurred on by our eles back in the village and those on the list waiting to join the herd on the forest, all runners put in an amazing effort and astonished ourselves by not only completing our events still standing on our own 2 feet - but by actually running and not walking and by achieving pretty impressive times. With great contributions and support from the whole crew it was an amazingly fun day and a great start to our fantastic Christmas.Special thanks to the whole team of runners and our support crew for this successful event.
